Natural Sciences GEP, Global Knowledge & Interdisciplinary Perspectives : 3 Credits |
Join former provost Larry Nielsen in an exploration of the renewable natural resources that form the foundation of civilization—land, water, air, forests, wildlife and fisheries, renewable energy—and the ways humankind can use those resources to secure a sustainable future. The course begins from an assessment of the essential ways in which humans interact with the natural world and continues through to the latest headlines affecting resources, using a holistic, optimistic perspective to journey seamlessly across ecosystems, disciplines and continents. When taught in Prague, the course focuses especially on comparing American and European approaches to resource management and sustainability.
