Required Course for Elementary Education Majors or Elective: 3 Credits |
This course is designed to help students apply knowledge of pedagogy and development to develop high-quality strategies for formative and summative assessment. Students will explore the interpretation and use of different types of traditional and authentic assessments. In addition students will learn how to create and evaluate classroom-based assessments as well as how to interpret and evaluate standardized tests. Particular attention will be paid to examining the rationale for assessment, and the implications of assessment. The course will take an international perspective on assessment as students compare methods used in Czech schools with those used in the United States. Students in the course will interact with and observe Czech teachers and their assessment methods and also assist in the development of assessments for Czech students.
