Kiln-Forming Techniques with Benton Jones
This “hands-on” studio will enable students to realize their own glass designs using kiln-forming and cold-working techniques within the country that is known as the principal producer of large scale, kiln-cast, glass sculpture. Student's drawings will be translated into a glass medium by cutting, grinding, fusing, sagging, draping, slumping and casting glass into molds that we will create from plaster, metal and ceramic. Students will make use of recycled glass materials whenever possible to create new “green” objects.
Through frequent museum and gallery visits around Prague and from an excursion along the “Glass Route” in Northern Bohemia, students will broaden their aesthetic vocabulary, informed by legendary Czech masters. During this six week studio, participants will become proficient in the trans-formative processes of kiln-forming glass taught within the context of glass history to bring this experience to life.
