This course presents fundamental communication theories as applied in public speaking, interpersonal and small group communication contexts and provides both a theoretical foundation and a practical framework for future study in the communications area. Students will understand the communication process, recognize the role that perception, language, nonverbal behavior, and culture have in effecting the communications process. Students will also develop strategies for improving listening skills, in managing interpersonal relationships, in understanding team-building and teamwork, and the dynamics of conflict. Students will prepare and deliver an informative speech, and a persuasive speech.
