Prague Institute

Budgeting

Meals

During your stay in Prague, breakfasts are included at the Pension (hotel) where students reside. You'll need to budget for lunch and dinner—restaurants are similar in price range to the U.S.—and kitchens are available at the Institute for you to prepare any/all meals, except on Saturdays when the Institute is closed. There is a fruit & vegetable market around the corner from the Institute and grocery stores near the Pension and the Institute. A refrigerator and hot water kettle are available in your room.

Student Life

Additional budgeting would include gift items, night life, etc. Jazz & Blues club shows average $12-$20, cinema $7, rock concerts $20-$100, opera/ballet $2-$60.

Travel

Students receive travel passes for trams, metro, and buses upon arrival for moving around Prague. For additional travel throughout Europe (Berlin,Vienna, Budapest, Krakow, Salzburg, Graz, Dresden, other Czech towns like Cesky Krumlov, Kutna Hora, etc.), you can expect to spend from $50 to $300 per  trip for train/airfare and hostel.

Although in most aspects of life the Czech Republic is rapidly approaching Western standards of living, the cost of living remains substantially lower than in Western Europe.
